Actress Lee So I has been cast in the upcoming MBC drama Motel California.

On the 31st, her agency Saram Entertainment announced So I's participation in the drama. Motel California (written by Lee Seo Yoon, directed by Kim Hyung Min) is set in a rural motel and tells the story of a female protagonist who was born and raised in a motel. She reunites with her first love, who fled the hometown 12 years ago, leading to a series of complications in this first-love remodeling romance. The drama is based on the 2019 novel Home, Bitter Home by author Shim Yoon Seo.

Lee So I will play Han Areum, a librarian and aspiring poet who is also a friend of Ji Gang Hee (played by Lee Se Yung). Han Areum struggles with mixed emotions upon her childhood friend Gang Hee's return to Motel California, as she feels both resentment and a deep concern. Lee So I is expected to bring a sense of realism to her portrayal of the friendship with Lee Se Young’s character, enhancing the drama’s immersion.

Lee So I gained recognition through her roles in popular projects such as the Netflix original series The Glory Parts 1 and 2 and the drama The First Responders. In The Glory, she played Yoon So Hee, a key character who brought twists to the story, and in The First Responders, she portrayed the missing person, Kim Hyun Seo, adding suspense to the series. She also appeared in the drama The Matchmakers, where she played the lively role of Bang Mul Jang’s youngest, Gaeseong-daek. With her steady acting skills, Lee So I is steadily building her filmography, and expectations are high for the new side of her that she will showcase in Motel California.

The new MBC drama Motel California, starring Lee Soi, is set to air in early next year.
