[NEWS] 'The Road in Between' Choi Hee Jin, making a strong impression with 'Deep acting skills+Fresh-faced look'

Actress Choi Hee Jin emotionally portrayed the moment of facing a farewell in 'The Road in Between'.

The fourth short drama of KBS Drama Special 2024, ‘The Road in Between’ (directed by Lee Hae Woo, written by Seok Yeon Hwa), was aired on December 3. It is a melodrama about the journey of a man from a road view filming team with a keen sense of direction and a woman bad with directions, who found her father in the road view. In this drama, Choi Hee Jin plays the role of Seong Eun Ha, a woman who faces a sudden farewell with her father.

Seong Eun Ha (played by Choi Hee Jin) struggles to find her father (played by Park Yun Hee), who disappeared with a letter. She not only meets her father's business partners but also waits for him in front of their house in the hope of seeing him. One day, Seong Eun Ha finds a man who looks just like her father in a road view. She asks her neighbor, Yoon Seo Hu (played by Jeong Geon Ju), who works at the road view company if he can remove the mosaic from the image. However, he refuses due to privacy laws and suggests that she search on her own. But determined Seong Eun Ha goes after him by her bicycle as he goes on a road view filming. Yoon Seo Hu asks why she is going this far. Then she responds, “I don’t want to leave my father in the middle of my misunderstandings.”

After Seong Eun Ha finds out that the man from the road view is her father, she finally meets him with Yoon Seo Hu's help. She weeps realizing that her father, suffering from Parkinson’s disease, left because he was afraid of being a burden to his daughter, even though he is not her biological father. Seong Eun Ha's determined approach to facing and accepting the farewell left a deep emotional impact.

Choi Hee Jin convincingly portrayed Seong Eun Ha, who, despite being fearful of not knowing why her father disappeared, does not avoid the reality but instead bravely sets out to find him. Roaming around the same alleys countless times, Seong Eun Ha’s unwavering persistence moved viewers and brought them to tears as well. Her determination to never give up in the face of farewell resonated deeply, offering empathy and an emotional impact to those struggling with parting.

In the meantime, Choi Hee Jin shared her thoughts on her role through her agency, Saram Entertainment: "This project means a lot to me. I was able to participate in this wonderful project thanks to the director, writer, and staff who believed in me from the beginning and supported me throughout. I will never forget the warmth this work has given me."

As Seong Eun Ha, Choi Hee Jin conveyed the message of the drama that facing a farewell, rather than avoiding it, can be a source of comfort to oneself. This has garnered even more attention for her future endeavors.

Meanwhile, Choi Hee Jin will take on the lead role of Yoon Nan Woo in MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama Motel California, which is set to air in January 2025.
