Actress Park Gyuyoung is unmasked.
On December 26th, the Netflix series Squid Game Season 2 was released. The intense battle between Gihun (played by Lee Jungjae), who returns to the game seeking revenge, and Front Man (played by Lee Byunghun) unfolds alongside the continuation of the brutal games. In the midst of it all, Park Gyuyoung’s identity Noeul was unveiled.
Noeul is a former soldier and a defector from North Korea, working at an amusement park while searching for her daughter left behind in the North. Instead of the green tracksuits worn by the game participants, Noeul wears the pink guard's uniform, after receiving the ‘○△□’ business card.
As a Pink Guard, Noeul aims her gun at participants who have barely survived and been left alive by other Pink Guards. Park Gyuyoung explained, “Noeul can’t live with the guilt of leaving her child in the North, but she has no choice but to live with the small hope of finding her. She joined the game with the belief that she must end the hopeless people's lives like her in a peaceful way, without suffering.”

With the introduction of Noeul, viewers were able to own the perspective of the Pink Guard, the game’s staff, aside from the participants. In this expanded worldview, the audience commented “Park Gyuyoung as a Pink Guard instead of a participant was a plot twist,” “It was refreshing to see the Pink Guard's story,” and “Noeul’s identity was most shocking.” They also praised Park Gyuyoung’s performance and Noeul’s role after she removed her mask.
In addition to the positive feedback, an unreleased still of Noeul was revealed. In the still, Noeul is seen in her room, briefly lost in thought before looking up with a blank gaze, dressed in Pink Guard uniform. The mystery of Noeul’s backstory continues to intrigue viewers.
Meanwhile, according to Flix Patrol, Squid Game Season 2 starring Park Gyuyoung, claimed #1 on the Netflix series global TOP 10 in 93 countries immediately after its release. Additionally, the show topped the non-English series rankings for the week of December 23-29, with a staggering 68 million viewers in just four days.
