[NEWS] ‘Friendly Rivalry’ Oh Woori: "Choi Kyung is a character similar to me"... Impressive presence with outstanding character portrayal!

Actress #OhWoori is leaving a strong impression with her outstanding character portrayal in Friendly Rivalry.

The drama Friendly Rivalry (produced by STUDIO X+U, directed by Kim Tae Hee, written by Kim Tae Hee and Min Ye Ji) tells the story of fierce academic competition and mysterious events at South Korea's elite Chaehwa girls High School. In just one day of release, Friendly Rivalry broke all records for viewership, audience numbers, and new viewer acquisition on 'U+tv' and 'U+Mobile tv,' surpassing all past original productions. The series has also ranked highly on various buzz charts, continuing its success. Additionally, it has topped international OTT charts in countries such as Japan and Taiwan, gaining global popularity.

Oh Woori plays the character ‘Choi Kyung,’ who is always second place, overshadowed by JeYi (played by Lee Hyeri). On the outside, she appears to be the perfect model student, but beneath the surface, she struggles with deep insecurities. Oh Woori masterfully portrays the character’s duality, earning intense reactions from viewers with each episode. Moreover, by cleverly using her cards to create tension between the characters, she heightens the audience’s immersion and adds further excitement to the storyline.

At a previous press screening, director Kim Tae Hee shared the casting story, saying, “Oh Woori was highly recommended by many acquaintances. When we met in person, she came wearing round glasses, just like Kyung. As she delivered Kyung's lines, the moment we heard her diction, everyone on set exclaimed, 'That's Kyung!' The synchronicity was so high.” Showing remarkable character immersion, Oh Woori has turned many people's expectations into reality, receiving praise for her performance.

Having built an impressive filmography through a wide range of roles, Oh Woori has made her mark as a next-generation new face with over 20 independent and short films, including A Blind Alley, My Heart Is Going to Explode!, Hail to Hell, and The Dream Songs. Notably, in the film Hail to Hell,  she portrayed the lead role of Song Nami, a character who, despite her arrogant appearance, has a deeply emotional backstory shaped by school violence. Her nuanced portrayal earned her the prestigious Avin Creative Award at the 2023 11th Muju Film Festival.
