TVING’s original series Way Back Love, which premiered on April 3 (produced by CJ ENM and Studio Mondo, distributed by TVING), is a youth fantasy romance that unfolds when Ramwoo (played by Gong Myoung), the first love of Heewan (played by Kim Minha), who had turned her back on the world, suddenly reappears as a grim reaper.

In the drama, Jeon Chaeeun takes on the role of Jung Heejoo, Heewan’s younger sister, and delivers a passionate performance.

Heejoo is like a friend rather than just a little sister to Heewan, who constantly gets into trouble at school. She even delivers a brutal reality check: “Do you think anything comes out of this kind of stuff besides old shame?” One night, when Heewan gets all dressed up to go out for a late-night secondhand trade, Heejoo teases her and ends up getting kicked out of the room—portraying the kind of relatable, hilarious sister dynamic. 

However, Ramwoo’s death brings a shift in their relationship. As Heewan becomes anxious about the possibility of sudden accidents, she tries to stop Heejoo from going on a trip to Cebu with her friends. Frustrated, Heejoo fires back: “So what, what am I supposed to do? Do nothing at all? Just stop seeing my friends and stay shut in all day like you, staring at the ceiling? You need to stop. Start living your own life.” Her words, full of concern and frustration for her sister stuck in the past, leave a deep impression on viewers

Jeon Chaeeun naturally embodied Heejoo’s emotional evolution over time, adding a vibrant energy to the series. Her chemistry with Kim Minha as real-life sisters brought both laughter and empathy, while her nuanced portrayal of a more mature Heejoo after coming of age added emotional depth to the character.

In particular, the scene where Heejoo speaks on behalf of Heewan’s hidden pain left a powerful impression, thanks to Jeon Chaeeun’s grounded and heartfelt performance.
