Actor #GongMyoung Shared His Thoughts on the Conclusion of Way Back Love

The final episode of the TVING original drama Way Back Love (produced by CJ ENM and Studio MONDO, distributed by TVING) was recently released. Gong Myoung played the role of Kim Ramwoo, a first love who returns as a grim reaper, portraying a warm and poignant youthful romance like a gentle spring day.

Returning to the small screen after a long time, Gong Myoung proved what “Gong Myoung-style romance” is all about. His character, Ramwoo, delivers the news of death to Jung Heewan (played by Kim Minha), but at the same time, he longs to help her rediscover hope in life. Gong Myoung convincingly portrayed Ramwoo as a ray of light in the darkness—comforting Heewan with a bright smile and gentle warmth, even in the face of death. Above all, his deepened gaze, resonant voice, and emotionally grounded performance showcased his strength and maturity as a leading man in a romance drama.

Gong Myoung shared his thoughts through his agency, Saram Entertainment, saying, “This was an especially meaningful project for me, so the end doesn’t feel real. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who loved Way Back Love.”

He went on to say, “Since Ramwoo is someone who wants Heewan to find the strength to live on, I aimed to express warmth and comfort.” This emotional sincerity is revealed in Ramwoo’s actions: even though he knows he will vanish if he interferes with the ledger of the dead, he still chooses to appear before Heewan and sets her time in motion. Gong Myoung captured every side of Ramwoo with care—from his bright demeanor guiding Heewan forward, to his sorrowful plea to a despairing Heewan, “Why can’t you keep moving forward?” In particular, his final farewell—saying “Saving you is saving myself” while swallowing his tears and smiling—was delivered with such delicate precision that it left a lasting emotional impression and moved many viewers to tears.

Gong Myoung also shared that he felt comforted seeing Ramwoo’s mother, Jungsook (played by Seo Younghee), choosing to live on with longing rather than guilt over her son’s death. Through portraying Ramwoo lighting a lantern for his mother, he hoped to express the quiet, enduring love between family members. “I believe longing also needs comfort, so I put my heart into conveying those emotions. That’s why I fully immersed myself in those emotions and acted with sincerity.” He added, “I hope everyone watching will truly love those dear to them, and freely miss those they miss."

Finally, he expressed his affection for the series by saying, “Once you start, you’ll be drawn in. I hope you watch Way Back Love now on TVING.”
