The character Hongseok, played by Jung Gunjoo, is someone who, despite his cheerful exterior, carries the trauma of a false start and the sorrow of losing a close friend—all of which he keeps buried inside. When asked if it wasn't difficult to portray such a complex character, Jung Gunjoo replied, “I constantly thought about how Hongseok must have felt after losing a friend. So, I tried to portray a much brighter version of Hongseok during his school years, and make his friendship with Ramwoo feel even closer.”

When asked how much he resembled Hongseok, Jung answered, “I’d say we’re about 50% alike. I think our optimistic and easygoing personalities are pretty similar.” As for the most memorable scene, he shared, “The emotional scene in Episode 4 where Hongseok opens up to Heewan (played by Kim Minha) about his past really stayed with me.” Lastly, he expressed his gratitude to the viewers of Way Back Love, saying, “To me, Way Back Love remains a beautiful memory.
