Actor Moon Donghyeok sparked curiosity about past relationships as he took on the role of Song Kyung-gu, the ex-boyfriend and current best friend of Miji (played by Park Bo-young) in Our Unwritten Seoul.

In episodes 1 and 2 of tvN’s weekend drama Our Unwritten Seoul (written by Lee Kang / directed by Park Shinwoo / planned by Studio Dragon / produced by Monster Union and High Ground), which aired on May 24 and 25, Moon Donghyeok appeared as Song Kyung-gu, the heir to Kyung-gu Mart and Miji’s longtime friend.

When Miji, now working at the mart, lamented that her life was ruined after bouncing from one day job to another, Kyung-gu comforted her by saying, “If anyone bothers you, just say you work at this store! I said I'd make you the assistant deputy manager.” Mishearing a word, Myeong-gap (played by Jung Eun-pyo), teasingly asked, “Are you two finally getting married?” Flustered, Kyung-gu waved his hands and quickly denied it, saying, “I said I’d hire her as assistant deputy manager, not marry her.” This playful exchange heightened viewers’ curiosity about the pair’s past, as they are now best friends but were once romantically involved.

Some time later, Kyung-gu showed up with a toolbox after hearing that Miji — who had always been good at riding bikes — had fallen. Unaware that Miji and Mirae (both played by Park Bo-young) had switched lives, Kyung-gu sensed something strange in her unusually calm demeanor while fixing the bike and asked if something was wrong. Caught off guard, Mirae replied, “Who walks around smiling after getting hurt?” Kyung-gu responded, “You do. You were grinning like the Joker even after getting your wisdom teeth pulled,” recalling how Miji had always smiled even in painful situations. As Kyung-gu, Miji’s only real friend and closest companion, begins to notice these subtle differences, viewers are left wondering why the two — once a couple — ever broke up, drawing even more curiosity to their past relationship.

Moon Donghyeok brings the character of Kyung-gu — Miji’s longtime friend and ex-boyfriend — to life with his unique charm. Though he grumbles on the surface, he shows genuine concern for Miji, with whom he shares a long history, capturing the essence of a childhood friend. His seamless chemistry with the residents of Duson-ri also adds depth and humor to the drama.

Moon Donghyeok has previously impressed viewers with his versatile character portrayals in a range of works including the films The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil, Ms. Apocalypse, the Netflix original series KINGDOM, and dramas like Start Up, The Devil Judge, See You in My 19th Life, and My Sweet Mobster. In particular, his recent role as Yang Hong-gi, the witty and sly head of marketing at Seo Jihwan’s (played by Um Tae-goo) meat processing company “Thirsty Deer” in My Sweet Mobster, left a strong impression. With Our Unwritten Seoul, anticipation is high to see what new side of him will capture viewers’ hearts.

Meanwhile, tvN’s weekend drama Our Unwritten Seoul, featuring Moon Donghyeok, airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:20 p.m.
