[NEWS] 'Second Shot at Love', Choi Sooyoung and Gong Myoung Begin a Mutual Romance
“I Quit Drinking” — Choi Sooyoung Survives Team Dinner

‘Second Shot at Love’ — Choi Sooyoung Became the Perfect Cure for the Monday Blues.
In episode 5 of tvN’s Monday-Tuesday drama Second Shot at Love (written by Myeong Soo Hyun, Jeon Ji Hyun / directed by Jang Yu Jeong / planned by Studio Dragon / produced by How Pictures), aired on the 26th, Geumjoo (played by Choi Sooyoung) is shown successfully completing her first week of sobriety.
Having officially begun her sobriety project, Geumjoo sees the dangers of alcohol firsthand through a health check-up. She resists the temptation to drink by exercising with Euijun (played by Gong Myoung). To encourage her, Euijun promises to grant her any wish if she can stay sober for one week. However, Geumjoo, whose parents run a pension, finds herself constantly exposed to drinking situations. In an effort to avoid temptation, she follows Euijun on a hike to a mountain where alcohol is prohibited. At the summit, Geumjoo is reminded of a special place filled with memories the two once shared. Feeling the absence of Euijun by her side, she realizes once again how his presence alone was a source of comfort, revealing her complicated emotions.

A greater challenge soon approached Geumjoo. Invited to her supervisor’s promotion party, she discussed strategies with Euijun on how to decline alcohol and stay on track with her sobriety. At the dinner, although Geumjoo firmly declared, “I quit drinking,” no one believed her. When her supervisor persistently pressured her to drink, Geumjoo deflected the situation by claiming that alcohol could be fatal for her. However, the supervisor followed her outside and, under the delusion that her broken engagement was caused by an affair and pregnancy, attempted to touch her stomach. Outraged, Geumjoo shoved him to the ground. Just as he lunged at her again, Euijun arrived in time to intervene, defusing the tense confrontation.
To lighten the mood, the two headed to a place filled with memories. When Geumjoo saw a notification reading “One Week of Sobriety Achieved,” she used her wish to ask Euijun to honestly tell her why he had cut ties with her. In response, Euijun confessed, “Because I liked you so much,” revealing his true feelings and marking the beginning of their mutual romance — a moment that stirred excitement among viewers.

Choi Sooyoung has convincingly portrayed Geumjoo’s emotional arc, shifting seamlessly between past and present, and deepening viewers’ immersion in her relationship with Euijun. From moments of close friendship, to estrangement, reunion, and longing, she has delicately expressed a wide spectrum of emotions, greatly enhancing the intensity and emotional depth of the story.
As Geumjoo reflects on her feelings and realizes the loneliness she experienced in Euijun’s absence, his candid confession — “Because I liked you so much” — raises anticipation and curiosity about how their relationship will evolve going forward.
